Show Notes

Yumchunks returns to the steel city of Midgar, the only catch is Midgar has gotten an extreme makeover. In fact, just about everything has gotten a fresh new coat of paint. We will be reviewing/discussing one of the most anticipated games of all-time, **Final Fantasy VII Remake**. Come join us as we seek the comfort of Midgar's steel sky, and we journey to take down the evil Shinra corportation to save the planet. What does it mean to be a Remake? Can the Midgar section of the game standup as its own full game? How much Kingdom Hearts did Nomura jam into this thing? Did Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie deserve their own side plot? How many times can Cloud wrangle up the same cats? We answer all these questions and more within this super-sized episode. * **FFVIIR** Impressions - 06:31 * **FFVIIR** Gameplay/Design - 10:12 * **FFVIIR** Story - 52:24 # Spoiler free reviews: **Aaron:** Final Fantasy VII Remake lives up to the hype. With its flashy, yet tactical combat system, amazing character moments, and music you’ll be humming for months to come. While some story elements left me groaning or wanting, the game overall succeeds at taking us back to Midgar. **Chris:** Final Fantasy VII Remake delivers on almost all nostolgic fronts. With an addictive battle system and charasmatically recreated moments (and locales) from the original, FFVIIR is an experience that all but the most cynical fans of the original will enjoy. **Sean:** Final Fantasy VII Remake manages to succeed in recreating the feel and emotion of the original without staying so beholden to the classic as to render itself meaningless. Frustrating pacing, and a nagging feeling of incompleteness linger throughout the experience, but an engaging battle system that is far more fun than it would seem on paper, a beautifully executed soundtrack, and characterizations that enchant consistently more than make up for the negatives. More importantly, FFVIIR knows what it is, and wants to explore that, even if some fans may not, and while it often stumbles in that execution, it largely succeeds in premise, if only in pure bold ambition.
